MEMORANDUM
TO: Board of Directors, Cloudcore Networks FROM: Marcell Ziemann, Chief Executive Officer DATE: 15 January 2026 RE: Request for Independent AI Readiness Assessment
Background
Over the past 18 months, artificial intelligence has moved from a speculative technology to a strategic imperative across our industry. Our competitors are increasingly marketing “AI-powered” services, and our enterprise clients are asking about our AI roadmap.
At the same time, I remain cautious. Industry research suggests that 70-85% of enterprise AI projects fail to deliver expected value. The reasons are rarely technical—they involve organizational readiness, data quality, talent gaps, and unrealistic expectations.
Before we commit significant capital to AI initiatives, I believe we need an honest assessment of where we actually stand.
The Question
Is Cloudcore Networks ready to successfully implement AI, and what organizational changes would be required to enable success?
This is not a question about which AI tools to buy or which algorithms to deploy. It is a question about whether our leadership commitment, data infrastructure, talent base, technology platform, and organizational culture are positioned to support AI investments.
Request
I am requesting Board approval to engage an external consultant to conduct an AI Maturity Assessment across five dimensions:
- Leadership & Strategy — Do we have executive commitment and a clear AI strategy?
- Data Readiness — Is our data infrastructure capable of supporting AI workloads?
- Talent & Skills — Do we have (or can we acquire) the necessary AI expertise?
- Technology Infrastructure — Can our systems support AI development and deployment?
- Culture & Change Readiness — Will our organization embrace AI-driven change?
The consultant will have access to our documentation, staff interviews, and operational data. The deliverable will be an executive report with maturity ratings, gap analysis, and prioritized recommendations.
Current Observations
Based on preliminary internal discussions, I believe we have strengths to build on:
- Strong governance foundation — Our ISO 27001 certification and data protection practices demonstrate organizational discipline
- Quality infrastructure — Our data centers and cloud partnerships provide a solid technical base
- Customer data assets — We have rich operational data from 500+ clients that could inform AI applications
However, I also see potential gaps:
- No formal AI strategy — We have not articulated how AI fits our business model
- No dedicated AI talent — Our IT team is strong but lacks data science expertise
- Unclear use cases — We haven’t identified specific AI applications aligned to business value
Potential AI Opportunities
While the assessment should be conducted without predetermined conclusions, the following areas have emerged in informal discussions:
| Opportunity | Description | Strategic Value |
|---|---|---|
| Predictive maintenance | Anticipate infrastructure issues before they impact clients | Reduce downtime, improve SLAs |
| Intelligent support | AI-assisted ticket routing and resolution | Faster response times, reduced costs |
| Customer analytics | Churn prediction and usage pattern analysis | Retention, upsell opportunities |
| Security automation | AI-driven threat detection and response | Enhanced security posture |
Budget & Timeline
| Item | Estimate |
|---|---|
| External assessment | $25,000 - $40,000 |
| Timeline | 4-6 weeks |
| Internal time commitment | ~20 hours (interviews, document access) |
This investment is modest compared to the cost of failed AI projects. A premature $500K investment in AI that fails due to organizational unreadiness would be far more costly.
Recommendation
I recommend the Board approve this assessment. The findings will inform our FY2027 strategic planning and help us make evidence-based decisions about AI investments.
If the assessment reveals significant gaps, we will develop a phased roadmap to build AI readiness. If it reveals we are more prepared than expected, we can move forward with confidence.
Either outcome is valuable.
ACTION REQUESTED: Board approval to proceed with external AI Readiness Assessment.
